Virginia Beach Public Library
Sunday September 25 at 2 p.m.
The Virginia Center for Public Safety (VACPS) is hosting a concert at Meyera E. Oberndorf Virginia Beach Central Library on Sunday afternoon, September 25, 2016. It's free and open to the public.
This concert will be part of a network of nationwide concerts that same day to show support for actions to prevent gun violence in America. Concert Across America to End Gun Violence - a coalition of gun violence prevention organizations - will be hosting similar concerts in selected cities across America anchored by a major concert in Brooklyn, New York.
This date has been chosen because it is the congressionally designated Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims. The goal is to promote public awareness and education regarding the issue of gun violence and garner support for sensible local, state and national legislation.
The concert will be held in the library’s auditorium starting at 2:00 p.m. There will be a number of performers representing various genres such as folk, R & B, and rap and poetry. The performances will be related to non-violence, peace and justice, and improving the quality of life in the country and the world. Participants will include Jim Bulleit, Sibel Galindez, JLUV, Ashley McBride, Vone King, Lyrical Angel, Fatima Dixon, Britton Hawkins, Karen Pool and Rep.
The concerts will be linked on Facebook so that performances from across the country can be shown at local events.
Livestreams from the local and national events will be shared at
